A few tips from our trips
Nothing complicated: what we have learned over several trips and what saves energy and nerves.
Shoes matter more than clothes
If you will walk a lot, choose comfortable closed sneakers or light boots. Stone, paving and wet grass are slippery, and sore feet can spoil a whole day.
Water and a small snack
On the road and on trails there may be no shops or cafés. A bottle of water and something light in your backpack solve most problems.
Set off early
In the morning there are fewer people and less heat, the light is softer for photos and parking is easier. By noon many places get crowded.
Walk into courtyards, but respectfully
Old courtyards and staircases are often prettier than the main streets. If a place is clearly someone's home, do not walk into their yard or photograph their windows: looking from the street is enough.

Download the map in advance
Reception disappears in the mountains and on quiet roads. An offline map and a couple of notes about the route save you a lot of searching.
Animals on the road are normal
Cows, horses and dogs are frequent guests. Do not honk or frighten them: wait or drive around slowly.
