Alanya: a town above the sea
A view from above, roses on a slope and sunsets that are worth staying on the beach for.
Alanya is laid out so that the sea is visible from almost everywhere. We went up to a viewpoint above the town and saw the whole bay with the harbour and the castle headland.

Small gardens lie along the road to the viewpoint, and the roses were blooming even in the heat. It is noticeably cooler here in the morning than during the day, and the light is softer.

The waves on the beach can be big, so swimming feels more like playing with the sea. The bottom is pebbly, so water shoes will not hurt.

The promenade is crowded in the evening, but if you walk aside toward the rocks you can have the place almost to yourself and wait until the sun touches the water.

We like looking at water from under pines: the branches frame the picture. It is a good place to sit with a book until the sun goes behind the mountains.
